“This will help grow my business.” Mama Money customer wins R25,000

Thomas Arthur was not told much. He received a call from the Mama Money team saying that he had won a prize and that he should come to Mama’s office to collect it. He had no idea he was about to walk away with R25,000!

Thomas hails from Tarkwa in Southwest Ghana and came to South Africa in 2017 to visit his uncle who runs his own upholstery business in Khayelitsha in Cape Town.

“Tarkwa is a mining town but it’s really difficult to find work. I came to South Africa for better opportunities and started working with my uncle to learn the upholstery business and support my family back home,” said Thomas.

He’s a fast learner, and soon Thomas started his own upholstery business and moved to the coastal town of Saldanha Bay, about an hour away from Cape Town up the west coast of South Africa.

“I still can’t believe I won this prize, this will really help grow my business and I can now get more tools and look for a better working space.”

“I’m part of a big family. My parents have 10 kids and I send money home every week to help with food, clothes, school fees, rent, and medicine.” explained Thomas.

Thomas was the grand prize winner of the #MamaConnects campaign which supports Mama Money customers to bring them closer to their families back home. There were many winners and prizes up for grabs from cashback to return trips home to visit your loved ones.
